Green Zone Fitness (formerly Balanced Fitness Systems) has been serving the Tampa Bay community with fitness instruction for more than 26 years. We have a studio fitness facility (not a big box gym) near downtown St Petersburg, Florida that allows for one-on-one attention and easy in-and-out access. Led by fitness guru and personal trainer, Liz Phillips, Green Zone exists to help people of all levels find symmetry and balance in their bodies again.

As a child, I battled the physical limitations of being born with an extreme tibial torsion. I wore corrective leg braces and shoes my entire childhood; I was always told what I couldn’t do. Throughout grade school, I took part in regular physical therapy to help battle this condition. 

After years of PT, my leg braces finally came off in Junior High and I was able to try out for as many sports teams as possible. I immediately fell in love with athletics and physical fitness. 

Suddenly, my life was filled with all of the physical things I COULD do. 

Once I discovered the true joy that balanced fitness can bring, it became my passion to help others do the same. In 1978, I began my journey in the fitness industry as a fitness instructor at the Barbara Ellen Figure Salon in Maryland. I quickly advanced into management for a few years before moving to Florida, where I continued my career at Nautilus Studios in Orlando. In the early 90’s, I also spent time as a certified Jazzercise instructor and Franchise owner. As I studied more about fitness, I transitioned into one-on-one personal training, which I fell in love with!

I have served in the fitness industry for over 40 years and I am truly blessed to be able to use my experience to encourage individuals to “Stay in their Green Zone”! With individualized attention, I believe in providing an easy, consistent, and effective way to improve and maintain your fitness.  

Tim Butts

NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer

Tim has been active his entire life, from running track at FSU to cycling across Florida.  A Florida native with a bachelor’s and master’s degree from FSU, he enjoys teaching at Hillsborough Community College. After obtaining his NSCA PT certification Tim is applying his experience and knowledge to help others achieve their fitness goals. Tim applies his experience and knowledge to help other mature men achieve their fitness goals from running a faster 5km race to gaining muscle and losing fat.

COVID-19 Notice

Green Zone Fitness has been paying close attention to the current health crisis we are facing, and we remain committed to providing you a safe environment to begin or continue personal training and fitness analysis. During these trying times we plan to be here for you and we thank you for your patience with the following guidelines we will be implementing immediately.

Training sessions are by appointment only. Only one trainer and one client will be training at a time. No guest, other than a close family member, will be allowed in the room.

Please wait in your car until we notify you that we are ready for your appointment. Between each client we will clean and sanitize all equipment.

Please use hand sanitizer upon entering the gym, and frequently after that. Bottles of sanitizer will be readily available around the room.

We will be doing temperature checks (using a ‘no touch’ thermometer or strips) on all clients and trainers.

Trainers will be wearing masks during all services. We encourage all clients to wear a mask.

We will maintain social distancing as much as possible consistent with safe exercise.

Please do not come in if you:

  • are feeling ill;
  • have been in close contact with a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19;
  • are experiencing a cough, shortness of breath or sore throat;
  • have had a fever in the last 48 hours;
  • have had a recent loss of taste or smell; or
  • have had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours.

Let us know if you have any special concerns. We will work hard at providing you a workout in the safest manner possible.
